Cleveland Lifestyle Family Photography – The Location

If you have not done a session at Whiskey Island yet, add it to your list! It sits right at the mouth of the Cuyahoga River where it meets Lake Erie – which means incredible waterfront views and that gorgeous lakefront light. Especially at golden hour. It is part of the Cleveland Metroparks Lakefront Reservation and honestly one of the most underrated spots in the city for a family session. The skyline views, the water, the open space… it just works so well for photos. Keep this one in your back pocket!

This Family

I just loved this family from the start – they were so fun, and relaxed and sweet too, which honestly comes through in every single image. Mom and Dad went to high school together! They did not really connect until mutual friends brought them back together as adults. At the time of this session they had been married 13 years – and you can just feel that ease and comfort between them in the photos.

They have two kids, a girl (10) and a boy (8). The questionnaire asked what they never wanted to forget about this stage of life – and Dad’s answer completely got me. “They truly are best friends right now and who knows how long that’ll last, but it probably won’t be forever!” I mean… how sweet is that?! That right there is exactly why these sessions matter so much.

The Session

They wanted their session to feel fun, stress-free, and candid – and that is exactly the energy we brought to Whiskey Island that evening. I got a real mix throughout – some candid moments and some looking and smiling too. Both are worth having! The kids together and individually, the whole family, and of course Mom and Dad too. I also love a good black and white mixed in and this session had some really beautiful ones. That golden hour light coming off the lake… it was just perfect.
