First of all, call me Ali and let's be friends! I am a lifestyle & portrait photographer in the Lake Norman North Carolina area and I LOVE MY JOB!!!!
My passion for photography started at a young age. I enjoyed my very first Barbie Camera, taking class after class of photography in high school, and even having my photography portfolio on display in New York my senior year! My husband surprised me with my first DSLR in 2010 and I have been head over heels ever since!
I truly love capturing the real life, meaningful and magical moments of people, couples, families, babies, individuals, small businesses, and more! I’m discovering more and more that lifestyle and documentary photography are my passions. I enjoy doing portraits as well, as we all need that everyone looking and smiling picture every now and then!
For a little more background, I grew up around Columbus, Ohio and went to Ohio University (OU Oh Yeah!). I got my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and my Master’s Degree in Special Education. I taught for 5 years – mostly third grade, but also preschool special education, and various other grades included. In 2014 we had our first babe and after that school year I decided to stay home with her. Since then I dove even deeper into photography and began to pursue it as a business.
First off, I am so insanely proud to share this HONOR. In 2020 I became a Click Pro Elite Master. In order to do this you must submit a portfolio of 150 images to be scored by the Click Pro Director. You are "graded" on seven categories: Exposure Triangle, Use of Light, Color and White Balance, Composition, Processing + Cohesion, Technical Basics (focus, Depth of Field), and Creativity + Intention. If your score reaches past a certain limit, you are invited to become a Click Pro. It's an intense process and I am honored to share this badge with a small group of other photographers around the world.
There are so many benefits to becoming a Click Pro. Not only are you going to grow gathering your portfolio, but you get to become a part of a community of insanely talented photographers who are there to support you and share friendship. You have the opportunity to become a part of selective photographer listings, contribute to teaching on Clickin Moms, Click Photo School, Click Magazine, and Click Away, exclusive private education, and more.
I am proud to share I have won various awards from photography competitions as well. Here are results from the Shoot & Share Photography Contest over the past few years. This is a unique competition where anyone in the world can vote on the images entered into it. You can see my standings in the image with each year and how many of those awards I received that year.
In 2019 I had the honor of being mentioned by Peerspace as one of the Top 7 Best Lifestyle Photographers in Cleveland.
"Ali Bohnenkamp is a diverse photographer, drawing from various disciplines to create her vibrant portfolio of newborn, high school senior, family, and even branding shots. She’s the kind of photographer who makes the people in front of her camera feel totally at ease. Check out her portfolio — all of those genuine smiles are proof. Her style suits each subject — bright, airy, and natural for newborn in-home lifestyle sessions, vibrant saturation for sunset sessions with boisterous kids, black and white to add a sense of timelessness to sentimental moments. Whatever your vision is for your portrait session, trust Ali to do it in her classically beautiful style."
My likes and loves include (but are not limited to) MUSIC (lots of it and various kinds, seeing artists live, singing along loudly, vinyl, etc.), chai tea lattes, wearing stretchy pants, old re-runs of Gilmore Girls, football (the Green Bay Packers & Ohio State Buckeyes to be more specific – and the Browns too), thrifting, Mitchell's Ice Cream, getting lost in a good book, Barrio tacos, the beach, and of course spending quality time with my family and friends. Being a wife and a Mama are two of my biggest loves yet! I also enjoy being outdoors, exploring more of the Charlotte area (or any city that we could be visiting), laughing with my people, and learning new things!
