I’m so glad to be back and now as a Charlotte Newborn Photographer serving other areas in North Carolina as well (and I also serve families, brands, couples, and seniors as well)! I loved meeting this family in person and getting to do an in-home lifestyle newborn session for them! This was my first session since moving and starting out as a Charlotte Photographer! And oh what joy! I love family and newborn sessions, especially when they are in your own home! It’s always such an honor when someone lets me into their life to photograph and document those fleeting, precious moments.

Siblings Matter!
I usually start a newborn session getting to know the older siblings. I know that this is a time when they may not feel like they’re getting as much attention and I always want them to know this session is about them just as much as the new baby. The first photographs I took during this newborn session were of the older brother in his playroom. We got to know each other a little bit and I think he warmed up to me quickly and enjoyed the attention as well. The baby needed some time to nurse, so I got a few of Mom doing that while Dad and big brother brought books into their bedroom to read.
Family Photography
It’s always so important to get the whole family together for any photography session that involves a newborn or family. Below are a few of my favorite shots of all four of them! Sometimes it is about the details and sometimes it is about the whole. I do want to point out that when we did the shots of them together in the nursery big brother climbed right up into that crib! It was hilarious, and I love that I was able to capture that moment. I adore the image of Mom and Dad laughing while he is laying down in the crib! This is what lifestyle photography is all about!
Mama and Her Pride and Joy
The images that you receive from a newborn photography session are for everyone in the family, but let’s be real… they are very much for the Mom! Babies don’t keep. It’s so important to have these images to look back on. There were so many favorites with Mom that it’s a struggle to not post too many here. I’m going to take this moment to also remind Moms – all the Moms – whether you have a newborn or your kid is 50 years old – to please get in the frame with them. You and your children will forever be grateful to have those images. Photography sessions are for every kind of family!
Don’t forget Dad
Of course it’s important to get some images with baby and Dad as well! These will also be cherished, and in this case it was Dad and his brand new baby girl, who just made him a Girl Dad! Again, so many favorites, as is my struggle with all of my lifestyle newborn sessions, but check some favorite images featuring Dad and his daughter below.
Can’t Forget the Newborn during a Newborn Session!
Additionally, I always get images of the baby alone at each lifestlye newborn session. There are so many details to capture! From baby’s feet, to their hands, to the hair on their head. This one still had the belly button thing on her too! I love to capture all of these details, including that last one too! As I said, babies don’t keep so it’s important to document what you can in the moment.

These are all great in home newborn photos but I absolutely adore the one where she is feeding and in the mirror you see dad and brother. Best storytelling image I’ve seen in awhile. Well done.
